I am very curious about this too, I was thinking of making a new myspace account for my website and just adding targetted friends to advertise my site. has anyone else tried this? what kind of results can I expect?

Those bulletins you buy are only effective if the friends they have added are real, and visit MySpace a lot. Also, if they would even be interested in your site. For example if some guy had 2000 teenagers added, why would they care about a bulletin about a forum about house insurance. Only a certain percentage of them would see the bulletin, then another percentage would open it, and then those who actually visit the site, many would not be interested in it anyway and just hit close.

MySpace marketing depends largely on products.. if ur target audience or ur product has a lot to do with social networking crowd then this is the place to be. In either ways this is actually a good way to drive traffic. though one cannot comment on the conversions that happen through this crowd

Myspace marketing is very effective but they are cracking down very hard on people who use this form of advertisement.

I think it would work well if you know how. You wouldn't want to spam people though because it could get you into trouble.
