If you want to get views, put your auction on eBay. If it is a new site, it will not be as detrimental to your fan base as if it is an established site (and if it is established, why are you having problems with traffic!).

Try PTC (not highly recommended with Adsense, but you could try-- I have and not run into problems yet). I advertised a forum once for 87c to like 300 people. I got 12 members off of it. How do I know it came from the campaign? Because it was a brand new forum not advertised anywhere else.

Social Bookmarking. Everyone knows this basic technique, but it really works. For every one person doing it just to promote their site, there is like another 2 or more actually there to find what they are looking for. Not a bad investment.

Messenger services. Put a weird away message on your services and I bet people will click on your link and see what the hype is about.

The social bookmarking technique is the best now a days. However, the messenger one you mentioned is good one too. I got some traffic because I have hundreds on people on my list.
