I used AWstats but what I noticed it was not reporting the statistics correctly. Webalizer is more effective and it shows all the statistics correctly. Awstats is easy to look and go through but Webalizer is very good in practice

I really like google Analytics, its sweet and all your reports are right there. PLus google is a very reputable company, its already knows too much about the internet with its massive crawlers for search engiens.

I would say use your hosting counter (one of my friends told me that a while ago), but if you don't want to use yours hosts I would say google analytics is the way to go.

There is new web stat program coming out. I think its called Woopra. More like Google analytic But i think it has some features which analytic doesn't have.

Google Analytics is very good but the stats are updated after a 12/24 hours. It doesn't show statistics in real time.
I advice Webalizer because it saves a lot of hd space than others.
