Default Common threats to the server

Any of you have experience with removing outside threat from your server like DDOS attack, probing, viruses etc. How do you overcome and how long it takes for you to solve this problem?

I'd say the biggest threat would be viruses that will be used to undermine your system. The best way is to use antiviruses and keep them always updated.

Just run a linux server, viruses really don't touch those.

I would have to say the biggest threat to servers is not keeping your software and linux patches up to date - not doing so places your server in a vulnerable state.

you get less problems if you run a Linux forum but till you might get things like DDOS attacks and also another thing is not updating security patches. Also Giving shell access to users might get you into trouble.
