Default Open Letter to New Webmasters

Running a website, at times, can be difficult. When you start, most people only use between 1-10MB's webspace, depending on what you're running. For instance, phpBB bulletin board software is 2MB's most!

We, the hosts, are doing many people a favor by giving our time and effort, giving you, the user, the opportunity to run your very own website.

We're getting many, many people requesting something like 1GB+ webspace and 50GB's+ bandwidth. As a new webmaster, you will not use that quota. It's very, very rare for a new webmaster to have a hit site, gaining 50GB's+ bandwidth, monthly.

For a personal website, clan website, or anything of the sort, you don't need anything more than 25MB's to start out, and really no more than 1-2GB's bandwidth.

Quote:
A web page may be very small or large depending upon the amount of text and the number and quality of images integrated within the web page. For example, the home page for CNN.com is about 200KB (200 Kilobytes = 200,000 bytes = 1,600,000 bits). This is typically large for a web page. In comparison, Yahoo's home page is about 70KB.

All I ask, as a host, is don't be greedy. Think about how much you need, not want.

If you absolutely need a higher quota free, you can't rule out something in favor of the host. For instance, post for host or ads.

Personally, I've never asked for more than 2 GB bandwidth, and I've rarely ever exceeded my bandwidth limit
10 Mbs webspace isn't enough though in my opinion, as most people like to have a bit large mailbox, not to mention all the files hosted for your site
50 Mbs should be enough though for any new webmaster

Many hosts are willing to say they offer these things in free accounts. Then when someone actually uses it the server never works. I'm glad you do not take that route. It is easy to promise anything, it takes a little more work to actually deliver.

As an inexperienced hoster of sites , I am curious as to know what could possibly drive the need for have such a huge pipe alloted to bandwidth server usage.
