well if you are on a fixed ip, then all you have to do is to allow your webserver access to outside world.

on non fixed ip's you can dry dynamic dns server's and you will get a suedo domain which will point to your computer the change of ip will be detected and automatically updated.

Aside from the line I think you need somewhat of a powerful CPU to handle this. Intel's dual core processors fir the bill nicely.

it isn't worth it.

Think away from the " Kid at home starting a website on a server sitting in his bedroom "

Well why not Mr Smarty pants?!

- Utility power is not reliable
- Internet connection;
- Not reliable
- High transfer sites not supported
- Correct DNS configuration is usually unavailable on one static IP.
- ISP's don't like home servers, it chomps away at there outgoing lines - Which means your connection can get throttled.
- Security of data
- Weather? - Floods, tornadoes, ALIENS?!
- Server stolen?
- Your parents confiscate your server as you haven't done your chores.

my 2c.

Sure, if its for personal use... But for a operational public website that you want to grow... Don't host it on your mothers internet connection... It just isn't worth it and many kids/teenagers/middle-aged webmasters have done it before you and eventually moved to either shared hosting or a small VPS.

If you want personal help with setting up your own server, i am happy to help free of charge.
