Default optimization

what is it?

when you create a template in some grafic program and slice it- you need to select the right format of each piece- is this optimization?
what else is important to know?

Photoshop can save jpgs and gifs in a way so that the file size is minimal, but the quality is maximized. You simply use the "save for web" option under the file menu.

I agree, photoshop is the best way to optimize images. Always check and see if the GIF or JPG takes up more or less space and decide from there.
