Any use the SSH shell?

I am a big shell person, so I spend more time in the SSH on a server than I do in the web interfaces like cPanel. How about you?

well i also like shell a lot but i don't have money to get VPS but if i will i will definately like to work using SSH. coz that's the genuine way to work, in the mean time i try to emulate the hosting environment at my hoem and work on it but here i don't use any GUI tool but just my plain good old shell.

Check with your shared hosting provider. Some do offer limited SSH access through JailShell for some tasks like dealing with the MySQL and copying files. Not as extensive as a VPS shell, but still helpful.

I use shell when I want perform tasks like renaming or copying files.
It is handy to extract zip files and move files and folders.
I still don't know how manage emails mysql etc..
Maybe somebody here could brief us about those commmands.

Mail is not very practical to do from the SSH shell. While you can get mail via something like PINE or ELM, it's better to leave that task to a regular Windows mailer.

The MySQL daemon literally has lots of commands in order to manipulate the databases and tables that one could do a whole website about it. Here is a link that describes it pretty well and gives examples:

For all practical intensive administration purposes, there is truly nothing better than SSH other than having physical access to the server itself. So I use it a lot.

I am using SSH access in serverpoint.com plan, I think that offering this type of access doesn't threaten the security of the server in general.

Some providers do get a bit nervous about the security problems that giving someone SSH can have, but mostly experienced places know that they can set it up so that access is limited only to your account, not the server itself.

Some provide ssh acess on request, but generally it shouldn't be a problem to get it from a host if you are a long-time client.

I am now using ssh when connecting to remote servers. It is so easy to use but sometimes it really hard to do everything without physically open the servers. There are many things cannot be done just by using shell
