Default I Need Web Tutorials....

I have been blogging for the past 6 months, and have come to know a lot about SEO, link Popularity, keywords etc. Being a member of DP forums helped a lot too.

The thing is, I have been blogging on blogspot, and now I want to start a new blog on a hosted wordpress domain. But i've never run an actual website, and have no clue about things like FTP and all. Can someone direct me to a good ebook or tutorial on running a website..especially a hosted wordpress blog on own domain name.

Well, first of all, you need to find a host. There are many hosting plans out there, both free and paid, but you have to make sure that the company has been around for a long time so you can know that they are reliable. Many of them will also register a domain name for you, but you can do this for yourself if you want or have to. Another option is to have a subdomain, which a lot of hosts offer, which means you will not have to purchase a domain name, but domains are better because they are more personal and people are more likely to pay attention to your site.

You will want to make sure that your host has:

1) enough space and bandwidth for your needs - if it is just a personal blog, you can do a lot with just a couple hundred MB of space, and a GB of bandwidth, but you may want more, depending on the amount of traffic you are expecting and the amount of entries you will be making. Most hosts will allow you to upgrade packages if you need more of either.

2) cPanel - this makes editing and configuring things with your site a whole lot easier.

3)PHP version 4.2 or greater
MySQL version 3.23.23 or greater
Both of these are usually included

4) No ads - make sure that there is no advertising at all on your site. You want to always have full control of what goes on. This is one of the big things to watch out for, specifically when looking for free hosting plans, as they make their money through advertising.

5) Been around for a long time - a lot of hosts, especially the free ones, come and offer almost unbelievable packages for low, low (or free) prices, but they are running their plans on another hosting plan and often disappear very quickly without a trace, taking all of the hard work and cash with them. I've had this happen once or twice to me, both on free hosting plans, so I ended up switching to a good, paid host.

After you have a domain and host, and the information for accessing your ftp server, head on over to this site, which is a nice guide to setting up a wordpress installation.

Hope that this helps you.

to tell you the truth the best thing to do is take a class or summer camp for adobe dreamweaver. Its probly the best way to learn it, by being teached face to face trust me one week of it and you will know how to design a website easy and FTP (file transef protcal witch is sending your website files to intrnet) it. once your done you will say "its so easy even a... well you know so try it!
