Google treats forum signature links mean, everyone knows that. Admins are not responsible for what is going on on their forums, can't track everything, that is understandable. But think of a person who has a new site or some other reason to use signature links as one of the major means of promotion. Would you advice him to go for old, well indexed, may be even with PR treads? Some of them are as topical today as they used to be. Do you think it makes sense?

In order to get the most of SEO campaign, posting links in signatures is a good tool in achiving the most of the campaign. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with putting links in signatures.

No I agree forum signatures are fine and get me lots of back links. I think that directory submission is the best way to get good rankings in Google etc but forum signature is a very good and quick way of gaining them.

It makes sense. Having your link on any pr page is better then nothing. Its not going to hurt your website so you may as well just put it on as many forums as possible

I never even thought about a thread with a PR. I know some forums will eventually find some posts of that sorts as dead and close the thread altogether, but the ones that are still topical today should be ok. My next question, though, would be does the PR apply to all the pages of the thread?

Forum signatures are ok, they give backlinks but they aren't very high quality ones.

However, they are great source for traffic.

True. I am a site feign. I always have to check out a site with a cool tagline in someone's sig. I did not realize they were not high quality links. Of course...I never really paid attention to the quality of links much even.

I totally agree with you Sunny side. They can't expect admins/mods to know what everyone's got on their signature every single day...
