why these domains are so expensive?

i saw today at sedo that the domain 'c-m-m.com' was sold for $2,500, why these 3 caracthers and hyphens domains are so expensive? i cant understand!

They aren't worth that, I think a possible end-user here.

Probably a end user who needed the domain badly for something. Since All 3 char domain need a lot of money to buy people try alternatives.

See an explanation for almost anything. I did do a search for cmm.com and its for a medical site of some sort, So I see why the software company decided to buy the hyphenated version of the 3 character domain.

Besides if you do a search at Mattcutts Blog (the Google engineer) with the word hyphen, you will find that Google actually likes hyphens and does not penalize for having one in the domain. He has about 11 blog posts refering to hypenated domains.

Well i think he was lucky someone needed tha kind of domain but i think its only luck nothing more because mostly noone need that kind of domains...

maybe he thought it was c-n-n but really that price is outrageous that really does not make sense
