Start with VPS and than move to dedicated one.
There are many companies ogffering VPS with Dedicated servers as well. I suggest you have a look at A2hosting.com they have both and considering that they have latestes PHP, MySQL and Ror solutions that makes thaem very attractive. |

I would chose VPS, look how it goes, and if you need more power you can move to a dedicated server. It could spare a lot of money.

I advice you to take vps at hostgator. It's the best vps and dedicated server hosting.

You should start with a VPS and then move to a dedicated server. With a VPS you will be sharing the CPU although the CPU will be very fast with multiple cores.

it's a no-brainer that a dedicated server is better, but a properly configured VPS can give your site great performance and save your expenses.
for something like $50 you can get 50GBs of disk space, 512MBs of guaranteed RAM, 768MBs of burstable RAM and 1,500GBs of bandwidth plus support from serverpoint.com. http://serverpoint.com/english/virtual-server.phtml I'm sure there are other good VPS hosting deals, so what providers are you using?
