This will make your forums X faster. Ask your host if you have eAccelerator installed.

Add before the closing php tag in conf_global.php
Recache all your skin files.

You can add this code without harm, if your host doesnt have it installed it will not malfunction.
Mostly it ios installed on servers just not used.
When refreshing the board after install, you will feel its way faster.

Combined with my other trick of compressing the skins you will feel the difference.
