When do you do a temporary redirect versus a permanent redirect?

temporary if for a very short term and then it will not be used.
permanent if the old page will never exist again. permanent is better for SE.

Well what scriptman said. I think you should go with permanent one if only you are 100% sure that the page will never see the light of day again.
