Both linux and windows has their own advantages or disadvantages. Linux is a open source Os, easy to download and can be installed on variety of hardwares, less virus etc, on other hand windows is basically used for home PC's and mobiles. easy to use, some sort of expensive.
Both have their own advantages according to place to use.

              Windows Specific Applications

Windows applications which require a Windows server:

              • ASP Classic
              • ASP.NET
              • MSSQL (Microsoft SQL Server)

              • C#
              • Remote Desktop (dedicated server only)

Windows dedicated servers can support additional Windows-specific applications. For some applications, you may need to purchase a license and install the software on your Windows dedicated server.

              • Microsoft Exchange (requires license & Installation)
              • Microsoft SharePoint (requires license & Installation)
              • Note: Software not included with the server is not supported by our technical support staff, since we would not know how your server and applications are setup.

Linux is generally for CMS (content managment systems) Ex: Wordpress and is usually a lot cheaper. Windows is good if you are using ASP.net.
