Yes it is highly possible, you just have to be creative. Make 5 or 10 content rich website, do proper SEO, get traffic from SE's and earn from adsense or other ads.

Look for trends. What people are looking for? What is going HOT now a days? What is in? Entertainment sites are way to go IMO

Well it can surely be done. Getting a good revenue is something to work a lot for so it's like a serious job. But I would advise on getting a normal job too (in my country for instance such activities don't count in your worked years and when you want to retire you'd have some issues. It's not covering health insurance either).

So I develop sites and get revenue, but I have a normal job too ...

it's defenitely possible. it's just a matter of focus and direction. not trying to sound like a self help guru or anything, but when you work on your sites, do just that, but leave yourself time to party (and work) as well

Yeah, do something that is highly original or just do something that is "the thing" right now. I know a guy who makes $20,000 a month from adsense. That is better than most jobs pay.

Well I must say that I disagree with many of the opinions here about creating several sites....

Creating several sites is not a way to generate a lot of ad revenue. You are much better off creating one site to generate lots of ad revenue, but it has to be a site that you are interested in, and it has to be a site that is original.

I agree with Brian. what you don't want to do is spread yourself too thin. imo it's best to build one site at a time and build traffic to it. once you have a great site and the traffic to go with it, it's easier to build other websites and build on what you would already have if you wanted.
