Default Submitting to Directories

Do you think it is good to submit your website to different directories. Does it help your site gain PR or is it just an old trick recognised by search engine bots and doesn't help?

I submit my sites to directories because it gets backlinks to your site and can help spread the word about your site. If one person finds my site on a directory and keeps using it then it was worth submitting to. The only thing that would stop me submitting to a directory would be if search engines penalized me for doing so, and that would be a bit stupid really. Some directories such as DMOZ help your search engine rankings greatly.

DMOZ is an excellent way to boost your pagerank, but don't count on them accepting you. Do a search on "Corrupt dmoz editors" and you'll see what I mean. In my experience with dmoz, they will remove your site at any time without any warnings. Plus google doesn't value dmoz as much as it once did.

Yes, I do submit my URL to directories. I even keep of list of the directories that I submit to here.

The two most important one (in my opinion) are Yahoo Directory and Open Directory Project (also known as dmoz).

More beneficial if you submit to high PR directories. Directories with 0 PR are of little or no use. But it can not hurt.

I have recently tried putting my site into directories. I don't know yet if I will be accepted or if search engine rank wil improve as a result.

Submitting to different directories in the net such as: google, yahoo, msn, hotbot, lycos, alltheweb, dmoz, will definetely help you to make your site popular and know if you select the right keywords.

There are also a lot of services on the net, offering you to submit your site to many search engines and directories.

Some of them are:
http://www.addme.com/
http://www.exactseek.com/add.html
http://www.quickregister.net/
http://www.submit-it.com/
http://www.submitexpress.com/
http://freewebsubmission.com/
etc.

Find in google: Website submission for more websites.

Using traffic / link exchanges and other tools will help you too.
People recommend your site, when you offer free stuff or a service, remember that.
