Default Windows update off/on/automatic?

I always put windows update to warn me before downloading anything and also when I'm ready to install them. I don't like it when windows have control of what is installing on my pc and sometimes I like to wait a bit when patches are dispatched because you never know

Automatic update is off in my computer , I dont like when windows do stuff with my permition.
Another reason to turn off automatic update is because my PC is slower when automatic update is on.

Hm, I have not noticed that it is slow... At least I have not experienced such problem.

I also keep my automatic update off all the time! I don't think any update will make that big difference in the windows performance and also it does slow down the PC and the internet connection!

I haven't update my windows in a long time. I haven't even installed sp2. Frankly you don't have to if you install a good anti virus program.

I have Windows ME so this option doesnt really apply to me, but I tried to use Windows Update earlier today and it told me that I was using a Mac to try and install updates so they didnt let me in!!! no good, another reason why Ubuntu Linux Rocks !!!
