google puts ads in myspace

I read that google will pay 900$ mil to myspace to provide searching and ads and I wonder why didn't google buy myspace before news media did. They could have bought it with less than 500 mil (what news media payed) if they had moved first

Maybe they have too much money to spend.
But seriously I suppose they have missed the moment and now are trying to correct their mistake.

google had a lot of money so they can buy anything but even they get dily percentage from their banks
just they can use the advertisers money
