For most of my websites I have a black back ground for the majority of the site, I think it gives a nice closed in cosey feeling to the user most of the time. However a lot of people have told me I would get a better response with a nice light upbeat kind of site, with a white back ground and such.
Has anyone got any experiences with this kind of thing? |

The color you use for a background will have no affect upon how fast it is. That is if you are just using a code such as "#000000" and not an image.
Choices of color is like art, it depends upon the individual and what they prefer. A basic guideline to follow is just to make sure that the test is easy to read on whatever background color you choose. |

Yes, it more depends on if you are having an image in the background.

The choice of color will only add about about a millisecond to the page loading time as long as you are using an RGB value. Obviously white is the natural background color and I have to admit I don't personally like black backgrounds on sites but I guess depending on the niche it could be appropriate.

The types of color you use depend on the type of site you're running. Business sites usually have light colors, and perform best with that, but you may have a go at it using dark colors, but get some opinions first. If it's tech related business, then maybe you could get away with using dark colors.
Personal sites on the other hand vary, it all depends how well you blend it in. As for gaming sites, both light and dark colors work. Although, most people tend to use dark colors. |

The color does not make it load any slower becasue it does not have to laod an image it is just putting up a color based on the code.

It's a background with images that makes a page take longer to load. A solid color won't back any difference. So feel free to pick whatever color you want!

Well, black sometimes hurts on your eyes, and is not really fine to look at. Though black is nice and better:

I say avoid too much black because it makes the site harder to read - try some lighter colors to avoid that. However, the color shouldn't effect the speed at all, just avoid images like everyone said
