Host space for Blogging

Hi

I have few blogs which are up and running on Blogspot. I heard that we need to host the blogs on our own hosting not in blogger or other free hosting.

What are the advantages of doing so? can someone explain me.

I know almost any cPanel/Fantastico host have scripts like WordPress.

Both are good:

Blogging on your own site makes your site fresher, and search engines like that. So do users, if you let them join in with comments.

Blogging on an external site lets you add links to your site, which search engines also like.
