There are so many hosting companies around now that oversell, so is it a good idea or not?

its not..
for me... this will take or lessen your reliability, being a reseller you must know your resell limitation yet many people do overselling. |

I'm not talking about a reseller package, I'm talking about a dedicated server, its quite different to reseller package.

Its never a good idea. It sounds great to the buyer, and makes great money for the seller. But when the server overloads its bad for everyone. I wouldnt do it.

Dont be a overseller. You earn more respect not to be. I would much rather pay alittle more for a host thats not a overseller, than have to be with a overseller.

Well i would also suggest not to oversell. Your company reputation is on stake if u oversell and server load increases and there is a downtime.

Controlled overselling might be a sound idea, but overselling should also be controlled, I read that for each gygabyte of disk space three gygabytes could only be resold.

Is it a good idea to limit your overselling? Such as to oversell with only 5 packages?

I don't think there is such a thing as limited overselling. If someone start over sell wouldn't stop till clients start pissed off.
