Auto renew is the best bet here, set it and forget it . Like most of the members did say you have the option of renewing it for 10 years. Keep in mind that there are many who are waiting to grab your domain incase if they are let to expire, or you forget to renew it..so basically i guess its all domain tactics.

That is true, but it depends on the registrar.

I once had a domain on auto-renew with GoDaddy, and they charged me something like $15 to renew it for a year (this, I believe, is higher than what they were advertising on their website) - whereas other registrars were charging $9 max.

So sometimes you can get caught out if you don't do it manually and apply coupon codes etc

Maybe someone has already suggested this variant, but still - it is possible to get a domain for life with the hosting plan. Some hosting companies (many of them) and even accredited domain registrars (sibername.com) are offering free domain name for life within their hosting plans. The domain remains free as long as you are using the hosting. afterwards, if it is registered in your name, you just need to pay for the renewal.

All domains have an expiration date, most registrars will only allow you to register a domain for up 10 years too.

Yes, but some companies, including sibername, named above, give domain and it would remain free (gonna be renewed by the company) for as long as you are hosted with this company.

There no such thing as registration for life. Before there was a 10 year renewals but no longer available now. You can register your domain to a 9years renewal term if you are tired and sick of renewing every year or 2 years.
