I was wondering will your site go down if you do a full backup? There is this option in cpanel but its says do a full backup only if you are planning to change servers, it's a little vague for me.

Yup it's cpanel. I have been hesitant to try it out because I might loose all my data, but I need to take the plunge since I have to back it up someday.

I've done a full backup in cPanel. It's a very useful feature and it works well (at least on the server I was on). You should really back up fairly often, because hardware can die at any time and your site would be lost.
