How to Submit to Search Engines and Directories

Submit your main page (index or home page) to as many Search Engines as you can. Every time you browse the Web and come upon a new Search Engine, use it. The best results are if you do it yourself, by hand. It will take time, but it is the only sure way. Even many Web marketing firms will, as part of their service, offer you a submission by hand. Submit only one URL a day (no more than five). Force-feeding your URL's will only get them not listed or even banned. Do not use services of unknown submission Web sites that will offer you automatic submissions to "hundreds" of Search Engines. Their "service" will most likely get your pages banned and it is most often a scam.

It will take time, but it is the only sure way. Even many Web marketing firms will, as part of their service, offer you a submission by hand.

Many Web Directories will keep your page listed only for some time. From time to time, every six months, resubmit your page. At that time change the Title and Description of your page. Try a new catchier phrases and you may get much better results. You will be surprised at how much difference a new phrase can make in attracting visitors to your site.

When submitting to directories you don't necessarily have to submit your main page. If you have a page with more catchier title like "Free Tips" or "Win a free gift", use it.

Hmmm, only one URL per day? I'm sure it won't hurt you to make several submissions per day. I mean there is a list of over 300+ directories, and it will take you a year if you only submit 1 per day.

Yeah one directory per day also hinders the growth of your site. Your aim is to build links fast.

I don't submit to search engines, only directories. submitting to search engines takes to much time imo for the value that they bring

The other thing to do is post your links on other sites. Look for sites with high prs. When those sites get crawled your link will get listed.

I would concentrate more on link backs then submission to directories and engines.... For engines I would worry about the big ones, DMOZ, Yahoo etc.....

I must say that you can submit your site to as many directories as you want in one day. Just only submit your hompage not every page. Also make sure that you don't submit a ton of your websites in one day (only one website you have per directory per day). And only submit your site once, don't submit it once a day to every directory or you will end up getting banned.

Directory submission creates lots of traffic. I have experienced it a lot.

yes directory submission generates traffic and boosts your pr. I try to submit to something like 10-20 directories every day for all my sites. I have a very useful firefox plugin (informEnter) also that helps me fill the forms fast

jmcarthy could you give us more info about how successful your sites have been since you started submitting to directories? Also where do you get a list of directories to submit.
