Considerations before Hosting a web site

At the time of purchasing a hosting as first you have to choose the platform of the hosting like Windows and Linux. Generally Linux Hosting is far cheaper then Windows. but this is completely dependent on your website development if your site is built using ASP then you have to choose windows server and using PHP then you have to choose Linux server. Many windows server supports Linux also for this you have to read their manual or package includes.

Linux is the best and its easy. Then you need to identify the webspace and bandwidth you need. Also check where the datacenter is located? Then check the customer support, it is good or not. These are the basic things to do.

Pardon me for being clueless, but what exactly is a datacenter, and what difference does it make where it is located?

as far I know datcenter is place where the webserver is located and its location should be near to the visitors location oherwise it may take time to load your page from server

you can use vice versa if you want eg host asp pages in linux and php in windows. Everything depends on the webhosts configuration. I only use windows hosts if I have a sql server database that I'm going to host or an application specifically written for windows platforms
