The BEST programming language is something in which YOU can program at an instance, like my friend considers VB as his BEST coz he can create all kind of stuffs in VB, i consider ASP and PHP and shell scripting as my best coz i love to code in them and i know how to find a way out in them.

To me PHP is the most practical language for portability in today's online world and IMO makes it the best. But it all depends on what you are used to I guess.

Exactly right and I agree with you in some sense. The reason I believe PHP is one of the best scripting languages out there for Web development purposes, is because it is certainly portable, but another reason is because you can do something several ways which are for the same thing (in programming terms). Unlike other programming languages like Ruby where everything is based on one way, and doesn't seem as logical. This way PHP is seen more logical and more open minded. Widening the subject, there are a variety of programming languages that are for different things, for instance PHP and Perl (somewhat) are for Web development purposes, whereas Visual Basic and C++ are for desktop development/programming alone. The thing I like about Visual Basic specifically is that it is based on a visual perspective, so you can create some complex applications for your own desktop without having to code the actual visual environment itself, you do that with your mouse instead. So, to me the best desktop programming language is Visual Basic, but for common really complex applications, C++ may fit there, like large MMORPGs, etc. |

According to me c++ is the best programming language...it has revolutionised the world with its object concept...C++ is a general-purpose programming language. C++ is regarded as a middle-level language, as it comprises a combination of both high-level and low-level language features. It is a statically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled language where compilation creates machine code for the target machine hardware, supports procedural programming, data abstraction, object-oriented programming, and generic programming.
