Default Forum sources?

In your opinion, with sources is suitable for a forum?

PHPBB,VBULLETIN,SMF,INVISION,MYBB,ETC

I means for a small forum with about under 1000 members.

If you have money to pay VBULLETIN is the best no doubt. But if you are looking for a free forum script SMF is the best.

As Puffin said, it would depend on your budget. VBulletin is the classiest and the most expensive, but has a lot of bells and whistles as well as mods for it. I haven't tried SMF. PHPBB seemed to work pretty well, though it seems to be prone to hackers more than some of them. I guess because of it's popularity.

Well phpBB is lot of nice templates than SMF. phpBB used to have lot of loops holes in sources which was hackers paradise But i think things might change with new phpBB 3. But I'm already too used to SMF. one good thing is that SMF has nice theme editor where you can change the thing the way you want.

try mybb or phpbb for your forum if you don't want to purchase.

but that's just one suggestion.

I suggest that if you are looking for a paid one, with no doubt you could choose vbulletin. You could either buy the $160 (Owned License) or $80 (Leased License). For more info, please visit the official site https://www.vbulletin.com/order/

For free ones I would either suggest phpBB or MyBB.

A forum under 1000 members? Then you should really consider MyBB or SMF...I've tried all these open source forum softwares and I really think nothing quite does it like these two forums. MyBB is really simple, it's so pleasant to browse through a MyBB forum. And if your community is growing fast and your members want more features, MyBB's got a whole bunch of add-ons and mods.

But if you're not into adding mods & add-ons, go for my favourite opensource forum software: SMF. The excess childboards you can add can prove to be really useful or a bit of a hassle so thank goodness it's optional!

It's best to start out with these open source softwares. If you want to move on to VBulletin eventually, then VBulletin offers importers that are compatible with these open source forum softwares.

vBulletin will be the final choice when forum grows to a limit and when it start earn revenue. Till that SMF would be much better its easy to admin too.

Can anyone compare the server resources taken by vbulletin and phpbb on condition of the same number of visitors? One more thing, which control panel is preferable with each forum software?
