had some difficulties in the beginning with it, but they got good support and almost all seems to be working good now.
it's pretty simple 2 use as well

I will suggest you to go with phpld because its good and you can easily customize it.

Yeah, I have to agree with everyone here. PHPLD is what I use and is the best one I have come across. I also liked Simple Machines Forums (SMF). Not as robust though.

I think the best directory script would depend on what sort of directory you want to build, all the directories above are nice in their own way but I think the best directory script is one you crate yourself rather than an off the shelf script
