It depends on the content you are designing for. Designs for business would usually have soft design. On other hand, if its for band or something it would have dark feeling to it.

I guess, it depends on the background/content with your site. IMO, if you have dark background then you should go with light color texts..

I prefer light designs so that I can use the backgrond of content areas as white to keep it easy to read.

i prefer a darker design! it is more formal than a light design! but ofcourse it depends on the designer!
