I prefer Email because I can list everything that I need to ask to support person and then he can do the same and answer back with an email containing all the answers I need.

Live chat would be the best, although its a hard task for any hosting company to maintain
Second to that is forums, its an easy and quick way

The problem with live chat is that it is being "abused". Clients would like to be spoon fed that even assistance in the smallest details is being sought. If live chat can filter unnecesary request for support, this is one of the most direct way of addressing your clients concerns.
