I think forum color should jive with what the forum is all about and what are your target members. But most forums uses light colors for it is very clear for the eyes.

I have to say light colors because I've been to dark colored forums and they seem closed and confusing. With light colors, there's more of a sense of.. openess which is always good

I agree. It's based on the theme of the forum. For the site I visit I see a lot of lighter colors though. I'm not much into gaming. When I do visit those forums though I notice they they are done in dark colors.

I also agree with the poster that said dark colors are confusing.

Light colors are always better because they improve readability. Unless absolutely necessary, you should avoid dark colors.

Depends on the forum. I personally prefer light color ones, because they are easy to read. But if the site's theme is a dark color one, then the forum should blend in, therefore use the same dark colors.
