Well you can start with frontpage or dreamweaver. Dreaweaver has mor otpions and also support extensions. Also i would not recommend notepad if u want to learn raw commands. You should use notepad ++ if you want to learn raw. http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

I started with WEB (Web Page Maker). Really simple and mustn't know HTML code. After monh I started using Macromedia Dreamweaver. It is more difficult. WEB is one of my favourite programs. Try if you want

I would have to say that Macromedia Dreamweaver is the best software around to create your own website if you're a beginner. Its where i started off

I think dreamweaver is a great program... It's generally pretty use friendly, and easy to make a nice looking page

After working with people's web pages installing ordering systems, I'll stick with EditPlus. It's a text editor that is very good for programming code (makes everything color coded), HTML and just plain text. I highly recommend it. I think their latest version shows you the web page as well which is helpful. The "make a web page" programs always seem to put in a lot of overhead that makes the pages huge in size where they don't need to be. One time we took a page that was 60K and made it 6K by taking out all the dreamweaver stuff and formatting the page with just plain HTML.

I advice you mozilla nvu (for linux and windows) for html editing and bluefish for php editing.
I don't like dreamweaver because it's too expensive like all adobe softwares
