My very first website was hosted on tripod.com. It was free and I guess I got what I paid for or didn't pay for. They had ugly banner ads and the pages were slow to load. I have since learned that there are some pretty good free paid hosts if you take your time to look around.

I've used tripod in the past too, as well as FortuneCity and Geocities.

Tripod was great in 99. These freehosts arent keeping up with the rest. You can get hosting for $1 a month now, nearly free and adfree.

                Re: tripod.com

Some people don't have that $1.. There are still GREAT free hosts out there that don't put ads on the site and have great space/bw. You just have to look around a little.

                Some words:

Space - How much room you have to upload stuff.
                BW - BandWidth

A friend of mine tried tripod. She liked the templates ok but ended up making some changes to them. Doesn't use it anymore cause it just doesn't fit her needs.

Same here i have used them all in the past
but to be honest to purchase a reseller account these days is so cheap
                        or
there is even so many hosts now that will host you free for either a text link or a small banner
                        which is great.

Too many ads, dunno if they still have popup's like before. It's still basically a beginner's free host, not for those trying to do any serious kind of business.
