  • Making Your Own VPS?

I was searching around google when i found out how to make my own VPS but it will make my computer unusable. I was wondering how i can make only like 5gb of my computers disk space into a VPS? is it possible or does it have to be my whole computer because i dont want to waste my whole entire computer.

Go buy a cheap old computer. Find a local yard sale and you will probably find a good computer to use for a VPS for something like $20. Other then that you must trash your computer to run a VPS on it.

I don't think it is a good idea to run a VPS and use the computer the same time, even if you can do it. the VPS should use most of your computer's drive, not 5GB.

How much RAM do you have? What os do you use? You'll need to strip back quite a lot, if you want to run comfortably all general hosting softwares and run your own softwares on KDE or GNOME (for example)

Apache will be about 150-250MB once all of the modules are loaded, depending on which modules you use and whether everything runs under mod_fcgid or you use the individual mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ruby, etc. BIND can also grow to 100MB or much more, depending on the number of zones you're hosting and whether it is providing recursive DNS service. Postfix always stays pretty small, but the spam and anti-virus tools are unavoidably quite memory and CPU intensive.
              I think it's impossible.

Its a good idea to make a VPS with old PCs for small works or even can learn about VPS too with small investment.

Making a vps on your home computer makes no sense. The upload bandwidth is so low on most dls lines so the network connectivity is unreliable for business purposes. If you want just to play with it then try VMWare or Virtual PC they both work for Windows.

Just install VirtualBox .. no need to dual boot, or anything. It is free even. You can make virtual machines and install any OS you require and allocate specific amount of HD/CPU/RAM/etc.
