What to avoid with domain names

Domain names are the key factor in getting people to come back to your site so what do you need to do to make sure they get to you and how can you increase your hist by choosing the right name?

There a number of no no's that you need ot be aware of initially but also you shoudl visit forums like this one in order to keep up to date iwth what is ion and what is "out" or should I say what google is doing at the moment since they casue the majority of issues.

For example the underscore character _ has long been used as a way to get your domain split in the right place to allow it to be a good keyword phrase split in the right place.

Domain names with a _ are now scored down by google, did you know that? in addition the - symbol is going the same way so what can we do now?

I use numebers myuself but am not sure if that makes things better or worse.

I would appreciate others take on this subject

Maybe just use a good domain name that doesn't mean nothing like google etc. Be original and have patience. Search and search until you find a good domain without _ or -

As you said you should avoid every defect in a domain name like - 0 etc .. Making o 0.. You should register highly brandable domain name with no dashes or underscores and it's good if the domain is pronounceable.
