I save real life images using JPEG as my format and if the picture is a design or a cartoon then PNG or gif is the best. JPEG provides best compression for real life images but is not good for drawings.

I use PNGs the most when working with transparency. But some browsers like IE 6 have some compatibility issues. I use JPG, but progressive JPG. It loads from low res to high res. Much better than from top to bottom.

I use JPEG. JPEG images support 16 million colors and are best suited for photographs and complex graphics. Since PNG is a compressed version of GIF and GIF itself uses 256 colors the quality of the image is higher with JPEG.
Also , PNG do not support animations :(

PNG because JPG is for putting optimized images on your site.

As stated above, JPEG is for non-edited pictures such as photographs. I barely take photos so therefore I have no need for JPEG. This means that I vote PNG.

All of my photographs are saved as JPEG, whereas all of my pixel art is saved as PNG. I'm not too sure about what each are meant for, but saving my pixel art in anything other then PNG seems to lose quality. I must say that my vote goes towards PNG. :)

I use JPG as it is more common extension, then i use GIF for animated images, I have also used PNG format but still I prefer the JPG

I use JPEG with low pixel. JPEG with 1024 X 768 pixels, no burden in upload or download time.

I prefer .JPG for when I'm actually planning to host the images, to allow quicker loading.

When I'm using them locally or it's something important like a family photo, I'll use .PSD's or .TIF's.

I use a combination of JPGs and GIFs. PNG is great, but old IE browsers don't support it. JPGs should be used for full-rich images like photographs. GIFs should be used for images with 256 colors or less. GIFs are much smaller than JPGs so use them if you can.

PNG is better then JPG.
It's smaller and size counts.
