        The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is the virtual machine component of Microsoft's .NET initiative. It is Microsoft's implementation of the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) standard, which defines an execution environment for program code. The CLR runs a form of bytecode called the Common Intermediate Language (CIL, previously known as MSIL -- Microsoft Intermediate Language).

            Hi,

            CLR is an abbreviation for Common Language Runtime and is the most ***** component of the .NET framework. All languages have runtime and it is the responsibility of a runtime to take care of the code execution.

            For example, Java has its Java Virtual Machine and VB6 has MSVBVM60.Dll. Similarly .Net has CLR.

            The CLR has the following responsibilities :

            * Execute IL (Intermediate Language) code
            * Garbage Collection
            * Code Access Security
            * Code verification, etc.

                Through common language runtime user can supplies managed code for using with services cross-language integration, code access security, object lifetime management etc. It is a multi-language execution environment. It is called "execution engine" of .NET technologies.

                  The CLR stand for Common Language Runtime. The Common Language Runtime is the engine that compiles the source code in to an intermediate language. A program compiled for the CLR does not need a language-specific execution environment and can easily be moved to and run on any system with Windows 2000 or Windows XP .

                    The CLR stands for Common Language Runtime. CLR is an Execution Environment. It works as a cover among OS and the applications written in .Net languages that are conventional to the CLS. The main purpose of CLR is to adapt the Managed Code into native code and then implement the Program.

                      The common Language Runtime (CLR) a wealthy set of features for cross-language development and operation. CLR supports both Object Oriented Languages and procedural languages. CLR provides security, garbage collection, cross language exception handling, cross language inheritance and so on.
