Actually there is no limit on the number of keywords that a site can have.....
But the more you have the more difficult it will be to rank well in the SERPs......

You could divide the KWs among several pages and probably do a lot better....)

It depends upon the site strength like site web pages, if you have more than 100 pages then you have more keywords & if you have 1000 web pages then you have more keywords, so we cannot assume how many keywords should be ?

The number of keywords or phrases, I suggest you should focus on each article is as follows: 1. You should focus your items that word or phrase to very high rank in search results. Ideally, this keyword should be in your title, first sentence, or at least the first paragraph of your article, and if possible be seen as the anchor text in your article. The title of the page that link preferably be the same. This is not a problem if you use a CMS (Content Management System) on your website and publish articles.

Too many keyword too much work, so select first minimum long tail keywords with low competition even have low searches 2, or 3 and get position for these. you page get some ranking then start working on short keywords for the same pages. I hope this will work for you.
