Depends only the content really, I tend to go for lighter designs on most sites, but say for a Rock Metal band site a dark theme would obviously be more appropriate

Fairly brighter color scheme but that should not affect the appearance of the site, it must not look bad...!!

It depends on the type of website that you are gonna hav! If you are gonna hav a professional looking business website, then it is preferable to use light and nice designs.

For Gaming and those sorts of websites, you can verywell use Dark and fun designs.!

Yep, it just depends on what kind of site you plan to have and what all you plan to put on it.

Most gaming sites now-a-days have a darker theme, as do most rock bands. Not because that is what is accepted but that is what looks the best.

But say for a hosting company or a biography or a portfolio then you would want to go with a lighter design because it is easy to navigate around and much easy to find stuff. Plus black font is much easier to read on a white background then a white font on a white background. :)

I feel entertainment sites must be of dark or bright colors and official sites must be of light colors.

It depends on the content you are designing for. Designs for business would usually have soft design. On other hand, if its for band or something it would have dark feeling to it.

I guess, it depends on the background/content with your site. IMO, if you have dark background then you should go with light color texts..

I prefer light designs so that I can use the backgrond of content areas as white to keep it easy to read.

Lighter designs are mainly for the coporate websites and service websites whilst the darker designs are for community designs, professional graphics etc.

Personally, I prefer the lighter designs.

Light designs all the way. White text on a black background really strains the eye.

i have to go with light designs and dark text because you can see the text easily and you can use the site for more than couple of mins becaus when i go to a forum where the bg is black or dark color i can't stay there for longer than couple of mins

I personally prefer light designs... but it depends on site topic.
Light designs are most common and prefered by almost all people.

I prefer using light designs so as to make the visitors clear about what site they are in. When you have a dark design, then there is too high a contrast and the visitor will not be liking to visit that website again!

Yahoo has a great colour selection. Also Microsoft.

I love dark designs and I would love being able to make the designs like this. But mainly people consider dark layouts to be tiresome for the eyes and since most of my sites have a lot of content I had to use lighter options to accomodate my visitors.

Personally I like to stick with light designs only especially, especially for websites that sell something. If you have a dark design for an estore I am pretty sure that it would lose you some business because light design tend to keep the user more awake. Its like if someone shines bright light into your eye while your trying to sleep. Its that kind of effect just on a small scale.

I prefer a light design better than a dark one as it is easier to read and better for your eyes then a dark design. Some dark designs are nice but many are not well though out and therefore are hard to read etc.

Dark Design - best color for clans/games
Light design - best for webmaster websites.

Well, generally I love all dark colors and also dark designs! So, if I developed a website it would most propably have black and dark blue as major colors.
On the other hand I agree that the content of the site should decide what is the right colors for it!

The graphics for a website depend on the content. Such medical related sites need a smooth and light color. For photography related site you can use dark shades of gray.

Its important to design your website well because people tend to find good looking sites to be usable more than just a normal design. What do you think?
