  • Best web language to learn.

I am familiar with how to code in HTML...but I would like to expand my skills. I'm currently considering learning java, php, or flash. I know they all have different applications, but I've got to start somewhere. Suggetions?

Side note...I'm familiar with VB, C, vhdl, and assembly...would any of those give me an advantage on a particular web language?

The next logical step is php.

Php displays html the same as a standard web page. The syntax is the same, but it allows you to use dynamic functions. At its simplest level it will allow you to include common items like headers, menus and footer so that if you need to update one of those you only have to change one file to make the changes on all pages.

Hmm if you only know html, i think css would be better way to go. You can still make awsome sites with xhtml and css, but if your pretty confident with css already take a quick look at .htaccess then go onto php

Ruby on Rails is about to revolutionize, they are like a volcano to explode. Last heard, the Rails load faster than php.

PHP is a definate, JAVA and Flash are only good for embedded stuff most of the time but PHP can be used to create entire sites.

Do you only know HTML? I would say the next coding language would be CSS (for styling) and then PHP because it's commonly used on the web

The language you should learn is XHTML.
Not HTML. It's a step farther then HTML. Excually, HTML is a little bit old-fashioned . XHTML has a better integration with CSS too.
So first learn XHTML and then CSS. CSS is defenitely something you have to know, it's really awesome working with it!

PHP is popular and most wanted now!!! But don't forget flash, becoz flash can do many kind of things like site intro, action button, page banners, form, and other animations....... I suggest you concentrate on this two first
