  • Hosting In Linux or Winows Server?

    Hi there

What is the different in the Linux and Windows hosting server. I have been told that it is better to host in linux server. Will it be any defect if I host in linux rather than windows to the viewer of my page?

    advance thanks for the help.

    Hi SK77,
You Want Shared Hosting Or VPS/Dedicated?
for Shared hosting the only big different is that in Windows hosting you are running .ASP applications & Sites.
If you want for dedicated hosting,Windows is more easy to admin(If you know Windows) But Linux is more Secure and Stable

Unless there's a reason to specifically use Windows, go with Linux. It's more stable, and there are far more hosts you can choose from who provide it.

The viewers of your pages won't see a difference. The operating system is behind the scenes on your server, not their computer.

          SK77,

"ASP means Active Server Pages which is a web server extension by Microsoft"-By google
The most scripts & forums run on linux,as they are php.
About to admin linux and windows,in shared hosting there isnt difference. Its the same(control panel, ftp, etc)
Difference there is only to manage Dedicated Servers(For the hosting companies)

I will always prefer linux to windows, windows is too unstable on a normal pc let alone a server lol. Linx supports more than windows and doesnt use as much resources, although windows does have its advantage, so unless you need asp then really the best choice is linux

Re: Hosting In Linux or Winows Server?

Yes but you must have skills to manage linux server, isnt easy for everyone to secure linux boxes
Windows is more friendly to anyone.
But me too,i prefer linux due to stable, easy manage if you have skills and the most important : Free softwares!(Firewall software, databases, etc)
In windows instead there are free softwares, there arent the best.

The OP says he wants shared hosting. He won't have to admin his server.

Not sure if you were joking, but what operating system clients use has nothing to do with what server OS to use.

I use Linux OS (from ahosting.biz) because it's very usable and free of charge.

Being an open operating-system, Linux is developed collaboratively, meaning no body organization is only accountable for its development or continuing assistance. Research and development expenses are shared by businesses taking part in the Linux economy using their partners and rivals. This scattering of improvement load amongst businesses and people has led to a sizable and effective environment and unheralded application invention.
