  • What can I do - hosting site can't recover my data

I've been with a hosting site for nearly 2 years. During this period I have hardly had the chance to make use of my site because of work commitment and so I rarely ever used their services. My site is a rememberance site based on a forum so there was little activity, most of it was when I first started.

I did have problems trying to set some things up when I first started (like e-mail, I could never get that to work) so I gave up and just relied on the basics which I could have easily done on a free hosting site.

Just today, I was trying to clear up some posts from spammers and tried to use the prune function, except I mistakenly deleted every posts on my forum including the eulogies. To make matters worst, I backed up the forum but not the mysql data. I do have a mysql backup on another hard disk but unfortunately that crashed (it clicks when I try to connect it).

Anyway, I was told that the hosting people had just done their backup just after I pruned my website. I don't quite believe that, but what's worst was that they don't have any backups prior to the one that they just did.

15 minutes ago, the site was working but based on the pruned version. Now it doesn't even work. What is going on. I am not very happy at all.

What can I do about this?

Ask your hosting company if they can restore the previous backup.
