  • Start Free or Paid

I am thinking of starting a host, but what is better? A free or paid host? I was thinking of free since there is a larger audience than paid host.

Maybe you could offer a combination of both. Free hosting for basic plans of say 50mb disk space and 500 mb bandwidth and paid for anything higher than that.

I would go with a combination of both but I would lean more towards free hosting since people love free stuff.

But do you think it would attract people to use the paid service on the same server as the free service? It could be unsafe for the paid users

Start both. Give good features in Free hosting.
But also have an option to upgrade to paid hosting which will be having much more features and affordable.

If your moto is only work then you should go for free hosting but if you want to earn money as well then go for paid one.

Both would be a good idea. Paid members will have more advantages like more features and upgrade option.

Would you guys pay to be hosted by a host who provides free hosting on the same server too? Won't you feel your site is unsecured?

I think it depends on the host that you are going with. If it is one of those host that are new in the business then you might want to be careful who you choose. I'd go with a reliable host that has a good track record.

Make something like a host for 1$ for small business and home needs I think you get a lot of costumers

Free is good for personal accounts and sites only. But if you are to expect to grow your site then paid ones is far more better. They will look more professional. And i had seen lts of people build there site in free ones and when they build it have a pr and everything but when that site crashes all of the hard work goes drain with the server.

well fact is are ussally when you host a free site one you can not FTP your website you have designed ussually they have a software for you to use to set it up and two you ussaully get less space witch is fine if your site doesn't need alot of space. It all matters on what you need.
