TCP is a connection-oriented protocol, whereas UDP is a connectionless protocol. The speed for TCP is slower while the speed of UDP is faster. TCP uses handshake protocol like SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK while UDP uses no handshake protocols.

TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol, it is a connection-oriented protocol. The speed for TCP is slower than UDP, TCP header size is 20 bytes, it is heavy-weight, it requires three packets to set up a socket connection, before any user data can be send.
UDP stands for User Datagram Protocol, it is a connectionless protocol. The speed for UDP is faster than TCP, UDP header size is 8 bytes.
