Most web hosting companies or domain registrars will send you a series of emails before your domain expires reminding you to renew it. Registrars will give you a grace period to renew your domain name if you don't renew your domain before the expiration date passes. The grace period usually lasts 30 days, during which you can renew your domain name without paying extra fees.
It is important to know that if you let your domain name lapse, your domain name will be deactivated, and your website will be replaced with a parked page. It's not the end of the world if you haven't renewed your domain name after your 30-day grace period passes. Your registrar will usually save your domain name for you and give you another 30-day grace period is called the registrar hold status.
The registrar may auction off a domain if it is on hold. The potential new owner must wait 30 days before owning the domain. You can reclaim the domain by renewing during the second grace period. If the domain is not renewed, the highest bidder will own it, or it will be listed in a closeout sale at a lower price. Anyone can buy it, but they must wait for the 30-day period to expire before taking ownership. In the event that a domain is not renewed or doesn't sell in an auction, it goes back to the registry. During the redemption period, it cannot be deleted or changed. You can still pay for the redemption and renewal of your domain.
Whenever a domain name is not renewed and becomes available for registration, it is possible that someone else will register it and use the domain for their own purposes, such as creating a website to compete with your company or using the domain maliciously. Therefore, it is necessary that your domain renews in a specific timeframe to avoid any further issues.

If a domain is not renewed before its expiration date, it will enter a grace period of up to 45 days, during which the owner can still renew it at a higher cost. After that, the domain enters a redemption period of up to 30 days, during which the owner can still redeem the domain at a significantly higher cost. If the domain is not renewed or redeemed within the redemption period, it will be released for anyone to register.

Here is a general timeline of what happens when a domain is not renewed:- Expiration date: When a domain expires, it will stop resolving to the website or service associated with it. Visitors to the website may see error messages or a notice that the website is no longer available.
- Grace period: Most domain registrars provide a grace period of 30 days after the expiration date during which the domain owner can still renew the domain without incurring any additional fees.
- Redemption period: If the domain is still not renewed after the grace period, it will enter a redemption period of 30 days. During this time, the domain owner can still renew the domain, but with an additional redemption fee.
- Pending delete: If the domain is not renewed during the redemption period, it will enter a pending delete phase of 5 days. During this time, the domain cannot be renewed, and it will be released back into the public pool of available domains at the end of the 5-day period.
After the domain is released, anyone can register it again. It is possible that a domain that was not renewed by its previous owner may be registered by someone else, or it may remain unregistered for a period of time.
It is important to keep track of the expiration dates of your domain(s) and renew them on time to avoid any disruption to your website or online services.

If a domain is not renewed by its owner, it will typically go through a series of stages before it becomes available for registration by someone else.
First, the domain will enter a grace period, which is a brief window of time during which the owner can still renew the domain without any additional fees. The length of the grace period can vary depending on the domain registrar, but it is usually around 30 days.
If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, it will enter a redemption period. During this period, the domain owner can still renew the domain, but they will have to pay a redemption fee in addition to the regular renewal fee. The redemption period typically lasts for around 30 days.
After the redemption period, the domain will enter a pending delete period, which lasts for around 5 days. During this time, the domain cannot be renewed or restored, and it is removed from the domain registry.
Once the pending delete period is over, the domain becomes available for registration by anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. It is important to note that even after a domain becomes available for registration, it may still have some residual traffic and backlinks from its previous use, which can make it valuable for certain purposes.
In summary, if a domain is not renewed, it will go through a series of stages before becoming available for registration again. It is important for domain owners to renew their domains before they expire to avoid losing their online presence and any associated traffic or brand equity.

- Domain Suspension: After the expiration date, the domain registrar may suspend the domain, disabling its functionality. This means that the website associated with the domain will no longer be accessible, and any email accounts linked to the domain may stop working.
- Grace Period: Many domain registrars provide a grace period after the expiration date, during which the domain owner can still renew the domain without additional fees. The length of the grace period varies depending on the registrar and the top-level domain (TLD) of the domain (e.g., .com, .org, .net). It typically ranges from a few days to several weeks.
- Redemption Period: If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, it may enter a redemption period. The redemption period is an additional period during which the domain owner can still reclaim the domain, but it often involves a higher fee than a regular renewal. The length of the redemption period also varies depending on the registrar and TLD.
- Domain Auction or Expiration Auction: After the redemption period expires, some registrars may hold an auction for expired domains. This allows individuals or organizations to bid on and acquire the domain. Alternatively, the domain may become available for registration on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Domain Transfer or Ownership Change: In some cases, if a domain is not renewed, it may be possible for someone else to purchase the domain after it becomes available. This can result in the loss of the domain for the original owner.
- Impact on Website and Online Presence: Failing to renew a domain can have significant consequences for a website and online presence. Visitors will no longer be able to access the website, and any email accounts associated with the domain will stop functioning. This can lead to a loss of traffic, business opportunities, and damage to the brand or online identity associated with the domain.

Аlways pay for the domain in advance, because my hosting provider often did not bother to warn about the expiration of the domain lease and once the domain was successfully withdrawn by the domain company (because the hoster itself does not own the domains but rents them)

If your domain isn't renewed on time, it goes through the following stages:- Grace Period (Short): You can renew and regain control of the domain.
- Redemption Period (Longer): Renew for an extra fee.
- Domain Available: Anyone can register the domain (you might lose it!).
