  • IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

    Greetings Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that I will be launching IsMyWebsite as a partnership with EvenHosting sometime in the next few months. The goal of this post is to gather opinions on a few proposed concepts and general site suggestions. The following concepts form the foundation for which IsMyWebsite is built upon:

    1) Full Ad Customization
Many free hosts force ads upon their webmasters - often in ways which interfere with the webmaster’s chosen page design. Not only does this annoy webmasters - it also reduces the number of visitors who visit these pages. With IsMyWebsite webmasters get to place their own ads - and even share in the profits their site makes.

    2) Professional Tools
The more successful your site is, the more successful our host becomes. So why should you be limited to more basic tools? We provide our webmasters with all the tools they need and even add more as required.

    3) IsMyWebsite Process
This idea is completely unique to our host - specifically designed to guide, encourage, and assist webmasters as they develop their website. Basically, there are 4 stages to building a website - planning, improving, expanding, and optimizing. As a webmaster advances between the account types they gain access to more features and resources.

    4) Advisors
An advisor is a more experienced webmaster who knows many of the skills needed to design and grow a website effectively. Webmasters who join the host are partnered to an advisor who answers their questions and helps them out. Advisors receive a small share of the profits from sites they help - thus also encouraging them.

    Any thoughts?

Seems like there are certainly some good ideas in there, especially the advisor one. I'm curious though, how will advisors be screened? Any specific criteria?

          Re: IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

Initially I will do a background check and look at their previous projects. I also plan on inviting people who have successfully advanced through all 4 stages of the IsMyWebsite process into the advisory.

My biggest challenge is that the truly dedicated and successful webmasters are usually very busy managing their websites - but forums are always full of experts that help people for free.

A key part of this system is that webmasters can choose their advisor - and switch advisors if the person they initially chose turns out to be incompetent or unhelpful. The advisor earns 5% of the profits from their client's websites - so it is in their best interest to get along well with their clients.

                Re: IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

This seems like an interesting idea....

But I don't understand it fully, how do you advance through the different stages...(is it at your discretion or that of somebody elses?)

And then how does the profit sharing work exactly?

Also, is this off the ground and running? Any example sites that are using this?

                Thanks for the info,
                Brian

                  Re: IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

You are partnered with an advisor who's goal is to help your website achieve it's potential. Your advisor helps you with troubles, directs you to great resources, makes sure you are following the rules, and decides when it's time for your account to advance.

The goal of account types is three-fold. Firstly, it helps filter out spam and abandoned websites - reserving server resources to those who will use them. Secondly, it sets a direction for the webmaster and keeps them from getting ahead of themselves (its not a good idea to promote an unfinished website or expand your website before you have a following). And thirdly, it is a great way to motivate webmasters and give them clearly defined goals that they can meet.

Now, with regards to profit sharing it's pretty much how it's said. 40 to 60 percent of profits generated through ads displayed on your website are your to keep. Some users may prefer to donate their share back to the host or to charity - which is also an option. If users do not have PayPal (required to receive their share) their share will be stored until they can receive it.

And no, I haven't launched yet. I'm working very hard to get the site working and have run into more troubles than I ever imagined but I will persevere and have the host launched this month or the next. In the meantime anyone interested in knowing when the host launches is recommended to join the mailing list.

                      Re: IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

I have yet to work out details of profit sharing. The difficulty is advertising can be purchased for multiple prices (depending on quantity) and this makes it difficult to tell the exact profit a site has generated through their advertising.

But this is definitely in the plan.

                          Re: IsMyWebsite Free Hosting Concept

There is a good description in our about section:

The IsMyWebsite process is designed specifically to guide websites along to success.

Stage #1 - Planning: This is where you take your idea, play around with it, and finally produce a small useable site. When you have something to show everyone and are ready to go public, you move on to the next stage.

Stage #2 - Improving: Your goal now it to take your basic site and improve on it. Get a better design, improve your content, eliminate unnecessary steps to using your site, shrink load time, increase compatibility, and more. This stage is finished when your service has reached its full potential.

Stage #3 - Promoting: Now that your site is ready to receive them, your goal is to attract as many visitors as possible. It's not easy, but we do our best to help you with both advice and statistical analysis tools. When you have a large steady supply of traffic and site input, you're ready to advance to the next and final stage.

Stage #4 - Expanding: Here's where you sit back and look at where you can take your already successful website. This stage is all about adding new features to compliment the ones you have, adding more content, and attracting even more visitors.
Also, yes there will be profit sharing. Approximately 40% for Improving, 50% for Promoting, and 60% for Expanding.

Well any updates on how this website is going?

You said yourself it isn't good to promote something that isn't ready yet, and so this isn't ready but is being promoted? Isn't that going against what you said, or did I misunderstand something?

Anyhow, let us know when it is up and running.

It is a good site, congratulations.

But i guess, it will be better if you will enlighten how much free space and traffic you offer in the frontpage with some kind off images or a banner.

Keep up the good and free work : )
