  • 5 weeks into breast feeding..

hello all. first post here. This is my first baby. he is 5 weeks old today. have been breast feeding the whole time. Don't have any issues with supply(maybe too much) or my son gaining weight(the dr said he is gaining almost twice as much weight as normal). the past 2-2.5 weeks my breasts have been hurting. believe it to be a clogged duct. have been nursing and pumping still. this morning i woke up in a lot of pain and my one breast very hard. pumped it because its to painful to nurse on, has been the last few days. any help would be great. if this keeps up I will have to switch him to formula because the pain is that bad and I am starting to not enjoy nursing him. thanks

This is one of the most common questions among breastfeeding moms because unlike with a bottle, you just can't tell how much milk your baby is getting. To make sure you're both on the right track, your pediatrician will monitor his weight closely, especially for the first several weeks.
