Is directory submission work these days?

I wanted to ask that is directory submission can lead to good traffic or not. I have heard that submitting to directories dont work as well as it worked in the past. What is your opinion on this?

I don't think that search engines care as much anymore about directory submissions, so it could just be a big waste of time trying.

If you want good traffic then directory submission is good for you. But it depends on which directory you are submitting. I have hired someone to do 5000 submission and getting enough traffic to my site.

There have been changes in how the search engines look at directory sunmissions. You can go directly to their sites an find out their option on this practice. Form my own experiment I found no ROI.

Yes, it still does. It helps my website get indexed easily. You could also try doing forum posting, blog commenting, blog posting, blog commenting, article submission, press release submission, social bookmarking..

Directories can help with anchor text and to rank certain key phrases and also provide backlinks. Directory submission is more beneficial for new sites that have no backlinks yet and pages that are trying to rank well for long tail keywords.

You can combine url directories submission with articles directories submission. Visitors can come back if you have a great quality content, so promote the content, not just the url

It¡¯s a backlink and according to search engines like Google, yahoo and live they do count each and every backlink. Along with this of my view I must favor the theory of ¡°good backlinks¡± and in terms f directory links a good backlink is one which is deep into exact category and most importantly the link that is gained from theme related directories rather than general directories. So least but no the last I favor directory submission for backlinks.
