Hi, I've heard the term cpanel so many times but I don't know what it means. I can google it but I want to know if any of you has a recommendation about a good article which explains the term really well.

CPanel is like a Control Panel for web hosting users. It allows you to do things like create email addresses, add domains, setup FTP accounts, backup files etc.

        Re: Cpanel explanations

That's a tool that people use to administer their sites: they can create accounts, use ftp access, create and add e-mails, add domains and subdomains using Cpanel. These are things that could be done without panels only if you know a lot of things, which I don't. But I'm not sure if C panel could be used on Windows server, probably, only on LIiux. If you need info you should go to the C panel forum and ask questions, you'll get more help.

                      Re: Cpanel explanations

cpanel is short for controll panel and it's basicaly a control panel for websites where users can upload their files, check their stats, send & receive e-mails ect.

you'll also hear the term WHM being mentioned a lot, WHM stands for Web Host Manager, which is basically a control panel for webhosts which allows them to create new hosting accounts, manage hosted domains etc and its actually part of cpanel, it's just the administration level of it, if you know what I mean.

cPanel is only for Linux, not Windows, servers. Other common Linux panels are Plesk and DirectAdmin. cPanel is the most common.

I have several different hostd and the easiest one to operate for me is the cpanel ones.
So much easier to use. A total beginner like myself can operate so many functions with this and I can use it to upload files without learning to use an FTP client.
